In my frustration over my inability to paint the canyon cliff details I desired in "Downriver," I started a new painting--and this is what transpired. It's an interpretation and simplification of the Colorado River, but it ended up looking like a phoenix...I liked the dual meaning embedded in the simple and more abstract shapes.
